Need help with trains, car

Crunch time. Doing Rome for 4 days, we would like to take a train and rent a car near Siena (we are staying in Chianti en Gaiole). We fugured we could skip trying to get of Rome via car. After that, we can turn it back in and take train to Venice for a few. Does anyone want to chime in with ANY advice? Grazie!!

You could take a train to Orvieto or Chiusi and rent a car from there.

For the return, I would suggest you drive to Venice and drop the car at Piazzale Roma. It is an easy 4-hour drive from the Chianti area to Venice along a good motorway, and the bridge from the mainland to Venice goes to Piazzale Roma.

I'd take the train to Florence and pick up a car there. The drive to Gaiole shouldn't take more than an hour. You can then dump your car back there and continue to Venice by train.

We rented our car in Chiusi (had a great meal there as well) and had no trouble driving all week around Tuscany. We spent a few extra bucks for an automatic and were SO glad to have a GPS. Drove to Venice and dropped it off at airport. We stayed at an airport hotel and took bus to Venice- very easy!!
