Agritourismo Recommendations Around Alba/Barolo/Barbaresco |
|
I'm going to be traveling to the Piedmont wine country in the first week in March and wanted some suggestions for places to stay while I am there. I will be proposing to my girlfriend while there so am looking for something special, but also not too expensive (just bought the ring). I would like to arrange some special tours and such to some castles and propose atop a castle in the wine country. Any suggestions of gems you have stayed at in the area or places that would be extra romantic? Special favorites at the local restaurants? Thanks, Dan dan_olson@gallup.com |

Its hard for me to recommend a place to stay as I live in the area, but why not check with the B&B reviews on this site, also run a search through the forums, see what others have had to say. Also check with www.slowtravel.com and www.sawdays.co.uk/accommodation/italy has some special places to stay. BTW Piedmont's wine country is not restricted to the Langhe area around Alba, but is throughout the Monferrato, look also in places like Asti, Acqui Terme, Nizza Monferrato Moncalvo etc. The area is quite compact and everywhere is quite close. restricting your stay in Alba area would be like visiting Napa and not Sonoma areas. Castles abound in the area, although not always easy to find one open at the right time. However there are several in Barolo valley that double as enoteca's and are open most of the year, Barolo, Grinzane Cavour and Serralunga come to mind. Its hard to go wrong with Piedmont's restaurants, there are so many its hard to choose one over the over and will depend where you stay. Suggest you run a search on the forums and see what others have said.

Consider either the spring or fall roooms at La Cascina del Monastero. They are lovely large rooms and the breakfast is almost worth going to Italy to enjoy. There are a number of good restaurants in the area with the best ones in the countryside not in Barolo. Consider:l'Osteria del Vignalolo and Belvedere both near La Mora. Reservations are needed in most of the better restaurants. Best wishes for a happy marriage
