Whisky Trail Itinerary and Transport

Hi, I am planning a 5-6 day trip to the area for my husband as a surprise present. He will fly into Edinburgh. He loves whisky and golf. Is there a way he can rent a car and stay in Granton on Spey as a base and then hire a driver to take him to various distilleries as he won't be able to drive? Should he stay in Granton for 5 nights? or should he split it with Inverness? (someone suggested this to me)

i dont know which distilleries he wants to visit as i will leave it up to him to plan it, but im trying to give him a little help with the itinerary.

looking for a place with distilleries, restaurants, castles and golf courses. thanks!

Hello, Flukeny

What a lovely surprise to plan for your husband!

Our town, Grantown-on-Spey, is ideally placed and a perfect base from which to reach distilleries, castles and golf courses as well as much, much more. The town has a number of restaurants to suit all tastes and we even have a very friendly, welcoming little pub, The Craig Bar, which specialises in pies and chips!

As far as travelling to distilleries is concerned there are local taxi companies which could take your husband on a guided tour or alternatively you could look at www.invernesstours.com, an award-winning tour company which will work with you or your husband on an appropriate itinerary.

There is a range of accommodation in Grantown-on-Spey too. We own and run The Dulaig 5 Star Gold Luxury B&B (www.thedulaig.com) and have had a number of guests stay with us and experience the delights of The Whisky Trail and Speyside. There are also a number of other B&Bs and hotels at prices to suit all budgets.

Your husband would certainly find plenty to enjoy over 5 days in Grantown-on-Spey and we would be delighted to help him get the best out of his surprise present. As well as having a golf course in the town itself there are plenty of scenic golf courses within easy driving distance. Even Castle Stuart, which once more hosts The Scottish Open from 12 -15 July 2013 is only about 45 minutes from here by car. Your husband could even visit Ballindalloch Golf Course, Ballindalloch Castle and a Speyside distillery in one day!

I hope this is helpful and gives you a little food for thought. If we can be of any more assistance please get in touch.

http://www.greaterspeyside.com/

This website might help you get a feel for whats in the area and distances between towns, distilleries etc.

Also have a look at

undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/areaspey/index.ht…

Also please note its GRANTOWN (Town of the Grant's) not Granton (which is an area of Edinburgh!!)

Enjoy your planning
