Blue Mall

What can anyone tell me about the newly opened Blue Mall or any of the luxury apartments on the top of the Blue Mall? I read that it just recently opened its first 6 or so stores and more will open in Q1 of 2013. What have you seen/heard? Also, is it walking distance to Porto Cupecoy/Atlantis and beach? Any input encouraged and welcome - my fiance and I are going to honeymoon in one of these apartments in early May.

Thank you!

It is walking distance to all you asked. Still only about 6 shops open. While we have not bothered yet, some neighbors have and said they won't bother to go back.

I am sure those apartments on top are lovely..They should have a magnificent view.

I would not suggest walking to any of the places you mentioned at night though.

Thank you for your input! It's a bit disappointing that we shouldn't walk around at night. We live in a city where we walk everywhere.

Well, you won't find any cities here, and the area is not particularly well lit or traveled by pedestrians beyond 6 or 7 pm.

Could we walk during the day then cab home? Will there be cabs readily available from the casino? And if so, approx. how much would that cost? Thanks!

It might sound fancy but , there are almost no shops opened yet. Porto Cupecoy is a great place to stay in apartments

I live in St Maarten and when i drive past , there is almost nothing to see there.

We realize that not many shops are opened up yet - we are going to be honeymooning and just want to relax and be walking distance to a few essentials. We're definitely renting a car so I think it will be fine :)

Could I walk to Porto Cupecoy/beach/Casino easily? We thought that would be enough to keep us content between drives...

Yes , it is walking distance to porto cupecoy, also , porto cupecoy has a grocery store (One of the best looking on the island) they also have various lunch places. There is no beach close though, you will have to drive to Mullet bay or maho beach.

Cupecoy beach is right there. Long Bay is also just around the corner, but not walking distance.

While out for a run in February, I did a walk-thru of the mall. Not much opened just yet, as they have a "soft, progressive" opening in progress, with full opening planned for this October, or so. Mall has a small deli/cafe, Swarovski crystal shop, and what appears to be a BMW dealer as several new cars were on display. I didn't venture up to the second floor as painting and construction were still in progress as I ventured around. Will be back this May. Whenever they finish, the mall does look fairly impressive.
