I'm planning on going to Tromso late February/ early March next year as a photographer to hopefully capture the northern lights.
I've done a fair bit of research into it but nothing can prepare me like talking to people who have been before.
I plan to hire a car to drive out to locations each night. Are there any particularly picturesque locations within driving distance that you could suggest?
With regards to hiring a car is a 4x4 a must? I know they maintain their roads and prepare them for winter a lot better in Norway than in the UK but can I expect them to be all drivable at almost all times?
I'd be grateful for any advice you can offer me on these subjects and if you know of a good inexpensive hotel, I'm still searching for one at the moment.
