prices in Paphos now...?

Hi everyone

We've been to Cyprus for the past few years and really enjoy it, we're wondering whether to come back in August again this year...obviously everything in the news put us off a little but people are saying its completely safe to come...

Our question is - what are prices like at the minute? We always stay in a villa which means we do a lot of supermarket shops and we eat out a lot. we're worried prices have sky rocketed which means we wouldn't be able to afford the kind of holiday we usually have.

thanks everyone!

Wow, special k for 8 euros, a cocktail for 5 euros, bread for 4 euros ? where are you guys shopping ? I get a cocktail for between 2-4 euros in most bars in Paphos and a loaf of excellent local bread no more than E1.50 ! And i've NEVER seen a box of cereal priced that high !

We have just come back from paphos last wednesday the prices haven,t changed much and the meals in the restaurants are the same as last year. We spoke to an ex-pat and he said the press over here blew their problems out of all proportions. We had a great time as always and paphos is our favourite place, and an added bonus we used the service bus to and from the airport for 1euro each way better than 30euros for a taxi have a great holiday any one who is going to paphos.

Apparently the taxi driver had told the old gentleman that prices were higher as it was Easter week.

Have a look yourself, nothing to worry about, international brands wherever you go will always be more expensive:

We returned home on Friday and it was the first time ever that we have found some UK brands cheaper than the Cypriot ones which usually we would always buy. Don't buy Kingsmill, Papantoniou have a special on fresh Cypriot bread which costs only 79c, no contest!

Prices are good in Lidl and most of the products are excellent quality. You can't buy french baguettes at any other shop as good as the ones at Lidl!

There is a second branch opening on 3rd June.

Thanks so much for the responses everyone!

We never buy british brands when we are in cyprus, we love buying the fresh bread in paphos etc. Just wanted to know what had happened to prices in general really. Most of you seem to be saying that things are pretty much the same as they ever were, just didnt want to turn up and find that all the restaurants etc had suddenly exploded in price!

Thanks again!

Just got back from our third trip in three years. No real noticeable difference in prices, don't let the scare-mongering put you off.
