Traditional Boats

There seems to be very little information regarding The TRADITIONAL MALTESE DGHAJSA. These are part of Malta's heritage. Why are these not promoted???????

I wouldn`t think that dghajsas would be very practical for fishing --- it would be like fishing in a Venetian gondola.

Fishing from a luzzu , a boat historically designed for fishing , would be a better option.

Spot on Graham..... the 'dghajsa tal-pass' is not a fishing boat, but a means of transport. I believe one was even commissioned for the personal use of Princess Elizabeth (Later Queen Elizabeth II). These historic boats are actually still around and kicking in the Three Cities.

Agreed they are not suitable to go fishing in, speaking as one who came dangerously close to falling out of one once in calm seas mid Grand Harbour, it really would be a very dangerous thing to do as they do not have the balance required in the way that a luzzu does.

In deed having met & spoken to boatmen, the actual Dghajsa Tal-pass which was commisioned to H.R.H. the then Princess Elizabeth, has been restored by A & S water Taxis & is being used by them (as we speak) doing Harbour tours & evening Romantic Harbour TOURS
