Don't buy Icelandic krónur (ISK, kr.) in U.K. - you'll get a terrible exchange rate.

Bring some pounds, and change them in Iceland. Better still, use Visa and MasterCard credit cards and Visa and Maestro debit cards to get the best exchange rate from ATMs (cash machines).

You can pay for almost everything with plastic, including taxis. Reykjavík buses (stræto) need excat cash or prepaid ticket, and packing meters need cash (although that's about to change to GSM charging). Otherwise, plastic ....
