Arriving in turku by train from Helsinki which train station to go to ruisallo and is there a hostel or inexpensive room by ruisallo, like camping but may not have a tent, what is it like there?

Try Googling Ruissalo, you probably get better hits. Station is Turku.

You hop off the train at the Turku main railway station. In front of the station, there's a bus stop. The bus line number 8 takes you to the Ruissalo island twice every hour during the day time. Check the timetables here www.turku.fi/Public/default.aspx…

Ruissalo Camping offers inexpensive rooms and cottages as accommodation. Strangely enough, I was not able to find an English language site for the camping area but here's a link to the Finnish site, http://www.visitturku.fi/ruissalo-camping_fi you can contact them in English by email and ask for further information - or then contact Turku Touring tourist information and ask them to help you. A room in a small cottage costs 68 euros/day/2 persons. Ruissalo Camping is open only during the summer months.

Villa Rauhala offers b&b accommodation on the Ruissalo island. www.kolumbus.fi/jm.asplund/enindex.html

Ruissalo Spa Hotel is not the most expensive alternative, either. Depending from when you are travelling, you can get a room for two persons for approximately 100 euros - including breakfast and the use of the spa pools, sauna and gym.

Do you mean, what kind of place the Ruissalo Island is? Well, it's kind of legendary in Finland because of its oak groves which are rare in Finland. There's a nature conversation area with walking tracks. You can find more information about the island by visiting the Tammenterho information centre where they rent bikes and sell maps of the island.

There's also the botanical garden of the University of Turku.

There are beautifully decorated old summer villas dating to the late 19th century.

There's the oldest rock festival in Finland on the first weekend of July called Ruisrock.

There are several cafes. I would recommend Honkapirtti which is a Carelian style log building with an interesting history. http://www.fazer.fi/honkapirtti It's a tradition in Turku to go for a walk on Ruissalo island and then eat pea soup and pancake at Honkapirtti. Other cafes include Villa Saaro, Villa Promenadi, Cafe Ruissalon Kahvila, Cafe Vanhan Tammen Kahvila. There is a restaurant at Ruissalo Spa Hotel.

One of the most spectacular places to be is the shore Kansanpuiston ranta at the time when the ships travelling to Stockholm leave from or arrive to Turku.

There are beaches for swimming: Saarronniemi, located at Ruissalo Camping and Kuuva which has an especially beautiful view to the sea.

Oh,and there's also one of the most charming golf clubs in Finland, they have a restaurant, too.
