Feery from Helsinki to Tallinn

We are staying at the Raddison Blu Seaside Hotel. Which ferry should we take to Tallinn, cost and times. This would be in May 2013. Can we walk to it with our wheeled suitcases:?

One of the Top Questions in the Helsinki forum tripadvisor.com/…32035860 tells you all about the ferry options.

You could walk to the ferries departing from Länsisatama (West Harbour), but it is your decision if you really *want* to walk over 1 km to the Eckerö or Tallink terminals with your luggage.

Tram 9 to the West Harbour goes practically from the doorstep of Seaside, walking there takes some 15 min, but the way there is not yet in a very good shape. Yhe whole area is a major construction site.

Good information. We will take Tram 9 to the West Harbor ferry. Can we buy our Tram ticket on the tram and how much? Is this the departure for the Viking ferry?

No, the Viking ferry leaves from Katajanokka. Take tram 4T or 4 for Viking.

My wife was just in Helsinki for business and we decided to spend a week in Estonia. You can read my reviews of the hotels and restaurants we visited. The one frustrating part of our visit was the ferry connection to and from Tallinn. This was the third time crossing the Gulf of Finland and we booked on the Linda Line because it was the fastest route and most convenient to get to from downtown Helsinki. Because we were taking all our luggage you can either take a cab right to the boat or one of the trams which takes you quite close. The weather was fine but because of wind the trip to Tallinn was cancelled. They only will give you one hours notice and on the way over we had no time constraint so they booked us on the Viking line for 10E extra. We were wary of the schedule on the way back because the conditions were similar to those the week before so we called the office one day ahead. They were unable to give us any information for our Sunday crossing even though the ferry was cancelled both ways on Saturday. They informed us to call one hour before departure to find out if the ferry was going to leave on Sunday morning. We checked the internet on Sunday morning and it listed the ferry as being cancelled. We tried to call at 9 to confirm the 10 AM crossing but only got an answering machine. We had to make an airline connection on arriving in Helsinki so we booked on another larger ship and on arriving in Helsinki went to the Linda Line office only to find out the ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn was cancelled but the one from Tallinn to Helsinki was not and they refused to refund our fare. For the difference in time (30 minutes) it is not worth risking the type of experience we had. As far as accessibility to the docks the South harbor is easier to get to than West harbor by public transportation. If you have lots of bags you might just want to take a cab.

Tram 9 stops about 15 meters from the door of the terminal. Could in fact not be much easier than taking the tram. Ticket bought from the driver costs € 2,5.

South Harbour is walkable from most of the hotels, while West Harbour is not.

For tram, bring some coins onboard - 2-2.50 EUR is enough.
