Train advice Copenhagen/Goteborg, Goteborg /Stockholm

We want to take a train from Copenhagen to Goteborg on Aug 2 and then from Goteborg to Stockholm on Aug 5. Plan to take the SJ high speed train.

Should we buy our tickets ahead of time (ie now, while we're still in the US?) Thinking of going first class, is there much difference between it and second class? We are from the US and so probably will have a bit more luggage than those closer to home (tho we travel fairly light). What about food? Seat selection? Any other tips for this trip?

Thank you very much! We are so looking forward to visiting Sweden.

It's cheaper to purchase the tickets in advance. 1 class tickets Gothenburg to Copenhagen starts at 395 SEK/person. Gothenburg to Stockholm starts at 443 SEK if purchased today. If purchased on the day of travel tickets will cost 496 and 885 SEK/person. So it's quite a big difference, especially for the Gothenburg to Stockholm leg.

1 st class on the high speed trains are pretty nice, seats are wider and more comfortable. It's usually more quite also. Luggage space can be a bit of an issue if you have large/bulky luggage. I would choose the 1 st class ticket any day of the week as it's pretty good value if purchased in advance.

Thank you very much. I didn't realize day of purchases cost more. Very helpful.
