Neos Marmaras is one of the best resorts in Halkidiki. It has two main beaches: "Plage" and "Paradissos". Plage is the main beach with coarse sand and medium inclined sea bottom. It is the most touristic beach of Neos Marmaras, lined with bars and tavernas, and is somewhat annoying during high season. Paradissos is located at the northern part of Neos Marmaras. It consists of fine sand and is very gently inclined, making it thus ideal for children and families. Paradissos is less crowded than Plage; a few bars and restaurants are located at its northernmost side.
Two more nice beaches are accessible through Porto Carras resort, but you will have to pay a 5 Euro entrance fee (refundable upon purchase of any good in the resort). These beaches are "Kohi" and "Limanakia". Kohi is lined with umbrellas and lounge chairs and is considered a very hip place for young people. Prices are steep, as it is the summer meeting place for everyone that is someone. Limanakia, further south from Kohi, is a small sandy beach, much quieter than Kohi. You can get to both these beaches without paying the entrance fee if you walk along Plage beach towards the south. Long way though.
Neos Marmaras has a lot of restaurants, but most of them are mediocre. Three restaurants that stand out are Dimitris and Mythos at Paradissos area and Haris at Plage area. Avoid restaurants in the village, because they are mainly targeted to tourists and you will find few locals dining there (Parashos is probably the best of them). There are also four fish taverns at Limanaki harbor, which is very scenic for a dinner on the sand next to the sea, but they are overpriced.
It is advisable to rent a car, at least for a couple of days, to explore the surroundings. A few choices are Parthenon (an abandoned but recently restored village a few km uphill), Itamos (the mountain above Neos Marmaras, very nice scenery and views, make a picnic stop at Psaria spring), Nisakia ( a series of small islets south of Neos Marmaras, very picturesque small beaches along the coastal road, eat at Simon taverna), Azapiko, Tristinika and Toroni (three huge sandy beaches in various state of development, have a drink at Ethnik bar at Tristinika), Porto Koufo (a natural harbor, fresh fish) and so many more beachesall around Sithonia peninsula.
