Just returned from staying in Ithaca and took an escursion called
Jaimes Marine Adventure. What a fantastic day out. Jaime is a
fantastically knowlegable and entertaining guy. He took us all out
on his boat. Taught (where necessary) people how to snorkel properly. Gave us all the equipment. Told us about the sea creatures we might find. He then went for a dive and bought up specimens of some of the creatures which he and his co-hort Bill put into a perspecs tank where he proceeded to explain all about their lifestyle. We got to touch each one. Once, gently so as not to stress them out and then we returned them to the ocean. His enthusiasum was remarkable but he reassured us all right at the very beginning that we could do exactly what we wanted on the day. Snorkel, swim, lay about and sunbathe on the boat. We snorkled in a shallow beach, then moved on to a spot near a tiny little island where the water was much deeper and then finally to a cove which had a couple of sunken boats to explore. We met octupus, star fish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins and more. As you can tell I found it amazing. A good lunch was included and it was just 55 euros each for a trip which lasted 7 hours. A total holiday highlight. He also runs the trip out of Fiskardo on Kefalonia which is where he is based. I award the highest recommendation.
