Where to go in Corfu- first time visitors

Hi

My Mam (50) & I (26) are thinking of travelling to Corfu next June for a relaxing holiday. We enjoy the beach, nice food and a few drinks.

Could someone please recommend where we should stay? I've been looking at the Mitsis in Roda- all inclusive.

Thanks

I think most people would say dont go AI, the whole point of going to Greece is to savour the food and atmoshere of the local Tavernas. AI can get a bit repetitive and the food is not up to Taverna standards.

Ok for a sandy beach have a look at Agios Gordios

Kassiopi has pebble beaches and very clear water for snorkling, nice harbour.

Try Sebastians or Katerinas in Ag G.

Very nice pool and only 3 mins to the beach, lovely owners.

I agree with ziggysboy about all-inclusives - they were conceived for dangerous countries and you will not find a friendlier or safer place than Corfu. Having looked at Roda, why not find something in the village? All the information is on http://www.rodaonline.org/

Be sure to leave time to explore Corfu Town. I would make a day trip of it and see everything and eat a good lunch or dinner there. There are several interesting museums and some lovely shops and great places around the Liston to have a frappe.

I would agree with not going all inclusive, especially if you like good food - eating out costs roughly 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of eating out in Ireland, drinks are around 1/2, especially if you try the local wines / beers.

A trip to Corfu town is again also recommended.

If you cant find anything suitable in the package holidays from Ireland, remember Aer Lingus also fly Dublin to Corfu so you might have more choice going independently. We have stayed in Dassia and my parents usually stay in Messonghi (spelling!!) - both are fairly quiet resorts.

The west coast of Corfu have the best beaches try Glyfada. North is Sidari and Roda, most on the east coast are shingle beaches. You can get a day trip around the island to finish your holiday taking in all the best tourist stops. I used Olympic Holidays but you may be able to get a better deal if doing it yourself and going self catering. As the other posts state only do B and B the tavernas are amazing for their local dishes
