This is a big ask...but our grand plan is to drive from the UK..across France to Italy and to, we believe , Ancona for a ferry to Patras, Greece. Then across Greece to Piraeus to sail to the island.

Any websites on ferry travel would be great..or tips/ suggestions.

Also, which Italian airports service the island too..have a sea sick traveller..!

This takes place in April 2005...fingers crossed.

But beware, that early in the year you can't rely on anything - wait to see what's available when you get to Piraeus.

Get an up-to-date road map. None that I know show the latest motorway extension - the Attica Way connection to the Corinth road at Elevsina.

For air travel, I think that you won't be able to get a non-stop flight from Italy to Santorini, but connecting flights through other cities (probably Athens) might work. Here's a webpage with a list of cities you can typically fly from to get to Santorini:

My husband and I took an Olympic Air flight from Athens to Santorini and back. The flights are quite inexpensive (at least for that route), and very fast -- 45 minutes or less. From Athens, a lot of airlines go to and from Italy. Personally, we used Air Italia to get from Athens to Rome after our stay on Santorini.
