Ferry travel time Santorini/Mykonos |
|
I am visiting Greece in Dec. Can someone advise me 1) if there are night ferry services from Athens to Santorini in December 2) what is the ferry travel time from Santorini to Mykonos from Mykonos to Athens (Pireaus?) I arrive in the evening so its not possible to connect by flight to Santorini (flight departs at 12.20). My itinerary looks something like this: Day 1-3 Athens Day 4-5 Meteora (return and overnight in Delphi) Day 6 early morning to Athens airport to catch 12.20 flight to Santorini Day 8 to Mykonos Day 10 back to Athens If there is a night ferry service, will take this instead of the flight. |

I don't know if the schedules are out yet but you may want to take a look at www.greekferries.gr .... plug in your departure/arrival with your dates and it will give you the available choices! Enjoy!

1) Thursdays and Saturdays in December there is a ferry departing Athens/Piraeus at 5:30 PM, arriving Santorini at 1:15 AM. Not a very convenient time to be arriving. The only other ferry in December leaves Athens/Piraeus at 7:30 AM and arrives Santorini at 3:00 PM. 2) There is no direct Santorini>Mykonos ferry between November 1 and March 30, and I'm not finding any timetables for December for the usual alternate ferry routes between Santorini and Mykonos. These would be Santorini>Naxos>Mykonos and Santorini>Paros>Mykonos with ferry transfers in Naxos and Paros. Either the ferry companies involved haven't released their schedules for December yet or none of them are planning to cover this route during the winter. Check with www.gtp.gr and www.openseas.gr every couple of days to see if anything develops. It's possible that you might have to return to Athens/Piraeus to get to Mykonos. If so, flying would be best and fastest.

Nafplion is a great option. Are you planning to be on a rented car? Driving then from Delphi to Nafplion means you 'll passing "aside" and NOT through Athens. All you have to do is to follow "Attica Avenue", direction "Elefsina". This highway will take you from Northern suburbs on periphery of Athens towards the Western suburbs, whole route on highway. So, you won't have to pass "through" Athens. If you finally choose this route, pay extra attention on taking the correct highway exit. Check this route here: www.gnto.gr/pages.php?pageID=805&langID=2 Download "Athens wider area " and "Attica" Driving on E75, after Lykovrisi and Metamorfosoi area, you turn "left" on "Attiki Odos" and then exit again at E94 after "Patima" area. No Athens downtown driving. An alternative is to go from Delphi westwards towards Patra town. This is a far more scenic but far more lengthy route also. You won't be using a ferry connection ( also there is one available too ) but you will cross over the sea on Rio - Antirio bridge. Keep though in mind that this is a more lengthy option overall, since you 'll be driving all Northern Voast of Peloponnese towards Corinth. www.gnto.gr/pages.php?pageID=805&langID=2 Download "Southern Greece". Delphi is between "Amfissa" and "Livadia". Alternate route means driving towards Itea -> Nafpaktos to the west, crossing on the bridge and driving eastwards again. Scenic drive, more lengthy option though :)
