My husband and I are planning our second trip to Mykonos for next summer. Last time we stayed at the Mykonos Grand Hotel and loved it. This time we want to stay at a the Petasos Beach Hotel since it's in a livelier beach area. We travel a lot and always try to make reservations well in advance in order to have a good choice of types of rooms. That said, does anyone know which room category is the best at Petasos Beach? Is the one with the shared private pool worth booking? Or is the deluxe sea view nice enough? Also wondering if there are lots of lounge chairs by the pool and on the beach to accommodate most people at the hotel.

Vickie, I can't advise about specific room categories but can recommend you confirm with the hotel, when booking, that you are getting a room that has been renovated in recent years rather than one of its older, unrenovated rooms. In May we were assigned an older room and did not like it at all, even though it had a wonderful sea view. It was dark and dingy and clearly in need of updating, so we requested a room change and were moved into a bright, cheery renovated room with a view towards Platis Gialos beach. (The second room had some drawbacks, but we still enjoyed it.)

Our second room had two lounge chairs on its terrace so we spent more time relaxing under the sun there than at poolside. In May there was no problem finding chairs near the pool on the two occasions we went to relax there, but during peak travel season I can imagine there would be competition for the loungers.

The hotel does not have any beach front, so if you want to spend time on a beach you have to walk to Platis Gialos beach (only several dozen yards down the road) and rent chairs and an umbrella there, or walk to nearby Psarou beach and do the same.

I've posted dozens of photos of Petasos Beach Hotel in an online album; feel free to take a look at them anytime. They're in an album entitled Greece 2006: Petasos Beach Hotel, Mykonos at the following link: http://community.webshots.com/user/donnyb1507 There are photos of the various beaches in another album, and piles of pictures of Mykonos sights and scenes, too.

I have stayed in both the deluxe room overlooking platy yialos beach and a standard room overlooking the main pool and psarrou the advantage of the deluxe room was the jaccuzi bath, steam room (which I never used but also doubled as a separate shower which I did use!) and a bidet plus also the room was 50% bigger than the standard. Also the deluxe rooms are in a much quieter position a short walk in the baking sun from reception.
