I wont try to hide it, we like to have a drink here and there (or more than likely here and there :-)-) So what are the drinks that we should try in Athens. I know about Ouzo!

You must visit to Brettos Bar in Plaka - its a great place to try Greek wines, tsipouro, Ouzo etc.
Great thanks!
You can find all the usual things, like whiskey, gin, the mixed drinks, blah blah blah, but this is the other side if the globe which means you have more options or you should try different things :)
- Ouzo: Usually drunk cold. You either order a glass, or a mini bottle ( karafaki ). Accompanied with cold water and ice cubes. Some ouzo ( 1 inch ), some water ( 1 inch ), an ice cube in. Sip it slowly people watching and talking, it's not a soda drink :)
- Wines: A whole world. I'd think of visiting a local wine store. Some really good wines and definitely better prices. Most traditional places have theor own house wine, served in small "karafes", either a "quarter" ( 250 grams, appx 250ml ) or a "half" ( half a kilo, appx 500ml ). If tis' two people go for a quarter, then another one if you want more etc. White house wine ( retsina ) is too much for some people so go for rose' or red.
- Tsipouro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsipouro
- Rakomelo: Tsipouro + honey + spices. Warm to hot, good for winter :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakomelo
- Metaxa: Well, you probably know that.Brandy, spices and wine, comes in "stars".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaxa
- Other liquors: Brettos is a good place to enjoy their locally produced drinks indeed + has great decor :)
- Other places: If it's summer, nearly everything is done outdoors, under the stars :) Huge majority of restaurants offer outdoor seating. Mostly all traditional places will offer house wine, ouzo. Infinite good choices really, for many trips to come :))
- Grande Bretagne hotel roof top, right at Syndagma Sq. offers great views and a great environment also. Qute on the expensive side though.
- Areas: Plaka, Monastiraki, Psirri have traditional restaurants and coffee shops. Gazi has some too but is more oriented to more modern nightlife too. Areas map here: http://g.co/maps/2vym7
Edited: 2:09 am, January 17, 2013Hey and welcome GCaldwell333:-) Well, being a 'wino' myself.. can assure you that you won't fall short on some fun experimenting here;-) FWIW, Greece produces some great wines.. from regular 'house' wine usually presented in a carafe.. to bottled;-) Ask for 'Naoussa Boutari' in any more up-scaled establishment.. and although you'll be paying for it.. they do make some mean reds;-)) Boutari is a popular name so look for it.. there are others.. but I forget the names;-)
As far as ouzo.. chances are you'll come across it's fire-breathing cousin.. tsipouro.. I don't personally drink the stuff but have yet to meet a local that doesn't indulge in the firewater;-) They oftentime mix it with a bit of water!! Love Potion #9 comes to mind.. it actually clouds up, lol;-))
As far as brandy.. the Country's infamous brand.. Metaxa.. known by brand, is something you may want to give a try?;-) It goes by a * (star) rating.. the higher the better.. so you will be too;-) enJOY!
EDIT: Aaaah geez! Took me that long to open up a bottle of wine, lol!! Nick beat me to all the good info.. listen to him.. the King of the Greek Forum who blesses all with his infinite knowledge on all things 'Greek' and Greece;-)
