Taxis in Athens

We have planned a 4 day trip to Athens in April. We are a family of 6 (2 adults, 4 children, ages between 12 and 5)

The plan is to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel in town. Would we all be allowed to take one taxi? Are taxis only allowed to take a certain max number of passengers? Are there any bigger size taxis that would be able to accommodate all of us?

Many thanks for your help!

You probably won't be able to pick up a taxi from the rank outside arrivals because they are usually standard cars (4 pax?). You will be able to book larger vehicle in advance if you choose to do so, however, bus or train from the airport to Athens centre are easily accesible.

Taxis in Greece are for 4 adults. So, you'll need 2 taxis, as you'll probably have quite a few luggage items. You can ask for a price over at familylimo.gr, who have minivans departing from the Athens airport.

Hi there

I would take the X95 bus, it runs 24/7/365 and is a dedicated airport/city/airport service. It's cheap, safe, and there's plenty of room on the buses for luggage. The buses drop off in the southeast corner of Syntagma Square, so if you can tell us the hotel name, we can tell you how to get there from Syntagma.

Hey and welcome greengables11:-) I don't know the formalities..or legalities involved..but have seen familiies with 3..even 4 children all get into one cab at the airport.. usually 1 adult sits in the back with the children and the other up front with the driver! If you find that won't be possible, you'd need to split up into 2 cabs..or as GB suggests, maybe the bus?;-) Super easy and convenient..located right in front of where the cabs line up! Have fun.. and EnjoY!

Thank you for all the responses!

We'll be staying at the Plaka Hotel. Would it be easier to take the X95 bus or the metro? Which one would be faster?

So looking forward to our trip!

For the Plaka hotel the metro would be quickest & nearest. The metro isn't traffic dependent & takes 42 minutes to Monastiraki station (come out via the exit on the square). From there you walk about 200 metres down Mitropoleos & you are there.
