Using Aegean Thesaurus Travel in Greece

I am planning an island hopping holiday in the Cyclades Islands this summer and am thinking of using a Greek travel agency to organise this for me.

Whilst I like to think of myself as an independent traveller, there seems to be a lot of stress related to booking ferries and accommodation and I am worried about what will happen if there are ferry delays or cancellations along the way. I have exchanged a few emails with Aegean Thesaurus Travel in Sifnos, who seem to be very helpful and receive good feedback online, but can anyone tell me from personal experience how their own relationship with this agency has been?

We have used Aegean Thesaurus Travel for many years now. We have always had the very best of service each and every time. We have used them for the full package - hotels as well as all ferry, air and taxi transfers. While they specialize in the Cyclades islands, they have also arranged our trips to the Dodecanese and Crete. If DIY is not for you, this agency will not disappoint. I most highly recommend them.

Hi Sandroulla!

I am travelling to Sifnos and other Cyclades islands for the last 15 years. Although i know the greek way of living quiet well now, i still trust in the service of aegean th. travel very much - and more :)

They know the local and actual connections, they know how to deal with your needs and easily understand how to solve any kind of personal or individual trips to and around those beautiful islands.

I wish u a great time there!

Hi. I am from Singapore. My friend recommended me Aegean Thesaurus to help me in my trip planning to Greece in May. I contacted Giorgos from Aegean Thesaurus and he had been really helpful and prompt in his replies in the last one month. He provided sound advice on hotels and land tours, as well as helped me book my ferry tickets for the islands of Mykonos, Naxos and Santorini. They also have a good refund policy. At the point when we booked our trip, we were concerned about the Volcanic ash cloud. But he reassured us that we will be refunded if our trip was cancelled due to force majeure situations. It was unfortunate that our trip was postponed due to the air strike on 5 May. But promptly, he helped us cancel the ferry tickets and obtain 50% refund for us.

I am looking forward to my trip to Greece tonight and I do hope that my trip will proceed as planned.

I will not hesitate to recommend Aegean Thesaurus to all forummers.

I worked with Barbara at Aegean Thesaurus. I highly recommend the agency, and particularly her. I didn't feel constrained at all by the relationship. I booked as much on my own as I wanted to and had her book parts of the trip as well.

Like you, I'm an independent traveler 95 percent of the time. But I didn't want to screw up the ferry bookings on my honeymoon, so I looked to her to do that and some hotel bookings where the property I liked was on the list of properties AT works with. If you like a hotel and it's not on AT's list, book it yourself. They didn't care when I asked. And I think that's what I liked most.

Also, I still get a Christmas card from them 4 years later.

My sister and I used Aegean Thesaurus last fall for our trip to Naxos, Paros, Sifnos and Nafplion. We had done tons of research but couldn't quite figure out the ferries. We dealt with Sandra who was really great. We knew what hotels we wanted to use and she made all the arrangements. If we were going to go again I think I'd just let her pick the hotels and even plan the whole thing. We thought the price was really reasonable and well worth it. Our vouchers for the ferries were sent to our first hotel and everything went without a hitch. I'm pretty sure if we tried to make the ferry arrangements ourselves we would've been stuck on an island somewhere!! We stopped in at both their offices on Sifnos to say hello. Everyone was very friendly.

Get an Agent - More specifically get Barbara at Aegean Thesaurus - BARBARA@thesaurus.gr - I started planning my trip early Oct. '09 for a 23 day trip starting 30 April '10 - ANY question I had was responded to the next day , totaling 38 pages before all questions were answered and planning completed - My biggest fear happened , a ferry cancelation , Barbara responded immediately and offered several options - Once I decided on which option I wanted she solved the problem for me - I ,also, had a prepaid transfer for 4 adults using 2 taxies which turned into only 1 taxi - I emailed Barbara mid morning on a Saturday - I expected to hear nothing until Monday - About 4 hours later I got a call from Barbara in my hotel that a refund for one taxi had already been credited to my card and that the taxi company was going to comp. our transfer to the airport the next day - My only complaint , Barbara ONLY offers travel help for Greece - Why not Europe - Larry Johnson

My wife and I spent the last two weeks of May in Greece - an overnight in Piraeus, six nights on Sifnos, three on Milos, and back to Athens for three nights. Giorgos Venios was very helpful in planning our trip, coordinating reservations with ferry schedules, recommending places to see, and getting great accomodations - at very good prices. We were very pleased with his recommendations for Hotel Glaros in Piraeus, Marganto in Sifnos (lovely hotel, delightful hosts, great view), Hotel Portiani in Milos (same can be said as for Marganto in Sifnos), and Attalos in Athens. Matt Barrett's website was also very helpful. I highly recommend Giorgos and Aegean Thesaurus and will certainly use them again if we return to Greece.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Greece and used Aegean Thesaurus Travel exclusively. The trip could not have been better planned from our accommodations to the transfers for both the ferries and the taxis meeting us to take us to our hotel destinations. I strongly reccommend them, they were both patient and read our individual needs perfectly. A perfect holiday.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 week holiday in Greece - Athens, Crete, Santorini, Milos, and a 4 day guided tour around the Peloponeses and Meteora. Our agent Barbara from Aegean Thesaurus was able to organise for us everything including tours, transfers, ferry tickets, etc, and the hotels she picked for us were all excellent choices in terms of location and class, all with breakfasts included. Our original hotel booking in Santorini was closed for renovations (because April was low season), but Barbara notified me well beforehand, and she was able to quickly get us another hotel booking with a junior suite upgrade - the views and the sunset from our balcony were breathtaking. And as you may be aware ferry strikes can occur at any time, and we did get a call from Barbara on the morning of the strike, but my panic was quickly reassured as she gave me some options to choose and we went to Milos instead of Naxos - it turned out to be one of the best islands for secluded beaches and we came across this wonderful little Italian restaurant that we loved. Overall highly recommend having a good travel agent like Aegean Thesaurus, I believe their help and advice made my trip so much easier to organize and especially deal with unexpected situations during the trip.
