I could recommend the Fort which we have always found reliable and a good standard (see reviews here). For local restaurants there are a few up the road and across from the Pestana Carlton but haven't used them for years so can't recommend any specifically. No doubt others will. Have a good holiday.

Coming out of Royal Savoy turn to the left and go up the hill 50 metters and turn the right on the small street going to Casino and 20 metters at your right hand you will find Restaurant Mar Brando with a open kitchen and all the ingredients and dishes are cocked and prepered on the ocasion.

Just across the road and down to the right, and almost next door to the Prince Albert is a fabulous Thai restaurant called Shengs, have specials and also A la carte, fabulous food, never had a bad meal there.

If you go up the hill to the left ther is also a good restaurant called the Red Lion,

For a special night out I like Ristorante Cipriani which, although part of Reid's Palace Hotel, is a totally separate building. It's not cheap, but the views from the terrace are to die for, and the food and service is second to none.

Somewhat cheaper but still a great place to eat is Armazem do Sal in the city - no views in this old salt warehouse, but great food, wine and service and very good value.

I concur with Chavesdeouro

Mar Brando is excellent. We stayed in the Carlton back in December and had a meal Mar Brando. The owner is a bubbly character and very friendly.

All of the food is cooked to order and the ingredients are all fresh from the market that day. He has excellent fish specials as well as the usual a la carte.

Have a great trip.

Opposite the Pestana Carlton is a small road with several restaurants and I would recommend the "Restaurante CHALET". I have been there so many times and Tony the owner is a really nice guy.

I agree with Roseandvine- Armazem do Sal has yet to be beat in our opinion, however it's a must pre book as it gets very busy.

I have stayed at the Royal Savoy myself in the past when on business. I would suggest Casal da Penha or Dona Amélia Restaurant both located in the same road (go up to Pestana Carlton and turn right down a small road towards the quinta penha frança hotel entrance). Food is nicely prepared in either of them but Dona Amélia is more expensive. If you don't mind walking towards the Lido area which is about 10 to 15 minutes there are more restaurants to choose from. I would suggest Chalet Vicente as did Derek. Portions are huge and prices are good. The links below provide a good description of each of the restaurants I recommended...hope they help. Have a great holiday!

With the closure of the old Savoy garden area, Royal Savoy guests are allowed to take a short cut through the side of the Madeira Regency Club - just over the road. Just come out of reception, veer slightly to the right and cross the road (the doorman will direct you if you are unsure), up a few steps and alongside the said building. You will emerge onto a cobbled sloping road with Casal de Penha immediately on your left and Joe's restaurant directly opposite. Turn left, pass the entrance of Casal de Penha (if you are not eating there!) and the Turkish restaurant Istanbul is just there on your left and immediately after that is the steps up to Moynihans Irish Bar. You are now at the roadside and if you turn right and walk a few metres, you'll see Dona Amelia Restaurant on your right and Prince Albert Pub on your left. A little further on, you'll see Sheng on the left. The 'sister' restaurant of Dona Amelia is the last building on the right at the top end of this road: Casa Velha. There are also a couple more on the left - including an Italian (Bernini's??). If you like Indian food - and fancy a curry while you are there - Taj Mahal is pretty good (turn left out of reception, up the hill and cross over before the Carlton - it's on the corner (upstairs) in between the two parallel roads. The entrance is directly opposite Mar Brando and the little mini-market shop.

Have a great time!
