Please, please help! Lisbon in two days

Myself and a few friends are flying out to Lisbon for two nights over the weekend and we are stopping at the Marques De Pombal.

Time is of the essence so we want to use it the best we can to try and fit in as much as possible.

What are the 'must see' sights in Lisbon?

Is the Beach accessible from where we are staying and is there any particular beach you recommend that we go to? Some where idyllic and picturesque? We only want to stay a few hours there.

Where are the main areas to eat? We are looking for some where to celebrate a birthday, not too expensive, but not cheap either, around 15-20 euros per person? Fados are out of the question! Ideally we would like to walk around in the evening and choose somewhere.

Also, we enjoy a bustling shopping atmosphere, are there many traditional street markets, other than those selling tourist things?!

i know it is long winded but could do with the advice!

Thank you

You are nowhere near a beach considering you only have two days and want to do as much as possible... If you really want to go to a beach rent a car, go for a half day visit to Sintra and on the way back you can stopover at one of Cascais beaches. The remaining time spend it at the city center.

Must see sights in Lisbon would be Belém (including the "Torre de Belém", "Mosteiro dos Jerónimos"), the castle and Alfama (the moorish neighbouhood under the castle) and the Baixa, Chiado and Bairro Alto. If you're looking for dinner go to Bairro Alto and walk around to choose from one of many restaurants. Nearby the area of Chiado has lots of all kinds of shops, and also a little further in Baixa. You will find a mix of touristic with very genuine selling, with a predominance of the latter.

The weather now is not "beach-friendly" so you might want to spend all your time in the city center.

Have fun!
