It's about 6 hours journey by bus Faro - Fatima. Train is not a direct option as the train station called Fatima is about 15 miles from the town! The previous poster has the travel information on the link he provides.

You would need to stay overnight somewhere. Lisbon would be an option, as you have to go through there anyway and it's 90 minutes from there to Fatima.

Unless of course you drive, but it still means a very early start to get a decent day out.

Thank you both so much for your info. it's great. Is it possible to get a train to Lisbon & a bus from there to Fatima?? Six hours on a coach is a loooong time!!

I was hoping it would be possible to stay overnight at Fatima.

Which ever route you take it will take 5-6 hours. You might be able to do it by hire car in 4,5 hours if you take the motorway bypassing Lisbon.

It is unlikely you will be able to do it return in one day...unless you accept it will be a long day.

The Train will require at least 1 change and then a bus trip as stated by Cubsur. Also there are only a few buses per day.

Cannot help with hotels but I suggest you contact the Sanctuary Office (details on my blog referred to previously!). They should be able to help.

Faro Lisbon by train is direct.
