Train + bus strike on 22 December 2011

Hello,

Newspapers and tv are reporting that NMBS, the train company, is threatening to strike coming Thursday along with other public services. Bus companies and subways are likely to join the strike as well.

So keep in mind that a possible 24 hour strike would mean few or no trains and buses from Wednesday 21 December 22h00 till Thursday 22 December 22h00.

So far there is nothing on www.nmbs.be or www.delijn.be yet, but I'll keep an eye on those sites.

FYI: the strike is about pension disagreement.

Kind regards,

Sabrina

Little nuance, the unions of the railroad company are threatening to strike, not the company itself.

Little nuance unless you plan on using public transport that day perhaps .

these things happen all over - thanks for the heads up though Sabrina, at least folk popping over will be forewarned.

It will affect people travelling back and forth to work as well

It's essentially the railway workers' union (CGSP-Cheminots) and I doubt that airport workers are members of that. It's getting to CRL that would be a problem, at least by rail. The shuttle bus is run by a private company, but demand will be high if it's the only way of getting there.

Well, today HLN newspaper report s "Ook de piloten en de cabinecrew van de luchtvaartmaatschappijen zullen het werk neerleggen. " which means that pilots and cabin crew will strike. It doesn't say which airlines.....

The same newspaper reports that Belgocontrol, traffic control at Brussels National Airport, is considering to strike as well, in which case the entire airport shuts down.

There is now a message on the De Lijn site

delijn.be/nieuws/Dienstverlening_De_Lijn_ern…

and also on the NMBS site

www.b-rail.be/php/promo/nat_promo.php…

The strike is also going to affect Eurostar services, with no trains to Brussels, and only a limited service between London and Lille.

The strike will also affect the metro, trams and buses in Brussels.

There will also a strike at the post, in hospitals, in schools and creches. Townhalls and libraries will probably also be closed. Or because the staff is on strike or because of they can't get to their work because their will be no public transport.
