I have narrowed my hotel choices...

Any advice positive or negative on these possible choices? One over the other for any reason?

Hotel Fevery (80 euro)

Hotel Jacobs (70 euro)

Leopold (75 euro)

Thanks!

Fevery is a small family hotel. Good character and very quiet. Rooms are reasonable size for star of hotel and are clean.

I've heard bad things about the Leopold but don't know from personal experince

I have stayed at the Jacobs (in August 2004) but I am not familiar with the others you mention.

I have posted a review of the Jacobs on this site.

It is in a quiet residential area opposite a church. It is still only 10 mins from the centre, and many hotels claiming to be central are still this distance away. The walk is pleasant and not a big deal at all.

One big benefit if you are driving is that you can just park in the streets near the hotel, free of charge - you don't have to pay to leave your car in a public underground car park, possibly a distance away as with most hotel in Bruges. Watch for "no parking" zones though.

The hotel is comfortable but basic and clean. Breakfast was a decent cold buffet. Staff are friendly and very helpful.

They have no night porter, so if you lose you key and get back late, you sleep in the church oppisite!

I would highly recommend this hotel.

I have also stayed at the Novotel Bruges Centrum, which is a completely different matter - also very good, but bigger, modern & central with less character. We have a son, so Novotel can work out better value for family rooms.

Having said that, we will probably return to the Jacobs on our bext visit, in April. That has to be a recommendation!

I'd like to correct something I said earlier about the Hotel Jacobs. It will affect you if you will be driving there. There are tighter parking restrictions throughout Bruges now, and in the area around the Jacobs you can only park for up to 4 hours, and you need a blue disk to do that. None of the public car parks are particularly local to that part of town, but you can park at the station and get a free bus to the area.

The Fevery is in the same area, but says it has parking available. i haven't stayed there, but after reading their description and some reviews, I believe they have some resident's permits that they hire to guests (at a cost), so you can park in the street.

Of course, if you are travelling by train, none of this will affect you.
