Hi folks/goedenavond!

I'm off to Ghent in 3 weeks time (am taking in the Kattestoet in Ypres as well!) and would welcome some restaurant recommendations from any locals posting here. I've done 2 day trips there (ate at the A Capella in Godhuizenlaan last time - excellent) and know all about the beer bars but not the restaurants. One thing I'd particularly like to try is a fish waterzooi - I've had a chicken one before at the Hopduvel but would like to try a fish version - where would you recommend? I've heard good things about Georges. I'd say my budget is average to slightly above average!

Thank you/bedankt!

I recommend the Groot Vleeshuis for all local dishes including waterzooi and the Pakhuis in general:

Hi Emma,

If you would like to try a typical Ghent dish, you should go for the "Gentse Stoverij" This is a type of beefstew in beersauce. You will find it in many bistros, but not in the classy restaurants, since it's food for the common people :) Every place has its own secret recipe, so it's a challenge to find the place you think serves the best stoverij...

So far, I can tell you they have great stoverij in "Het Voske" at the St. Baafsplein, between the two towers.

I hope you'll give it a try.

Frisko

There are many good restaurants in the city centre, I think you will like "Korenlei 2" or "De witte leeuw"

Cheers guys - I had a brilliant time in Ghent. Visited the Konigshuis, Bij den Wijzen en den Zot (where I had my fish waterzooi - a massive affair and very tasty!) and the Pakhuis amongst others.

My husband and I love:

CASSIS

Vrijdagmarkt 5

9000 GENT

Oost-Vlaanderen

Tel 09.233.85.46 Fax: 09.234.03.08

We live in Mons and drive 1 1/2 hours to get there! We especially like their ham (not at all like the American ham we are used to) and lamb chops.

Enjoy!

We ate at Pakhuis 3 years ago and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
