This may sound like a strange question, but one belfry is probably enough fo us...question is do the one in Bruges or Ghent. Which one is "cooler" for a 10 year old?

Both belfry towers have a different layout. On top of the Ghent belfry tower, you can stand outside and see more of the surrounding squares and buildings. In Bruges you are standing inside the clock tower and are more drawn to the depth of the panorama with views towards the North Sea. Either way, both belfries are awesome!

In Ghent, for a 10 year old, I would also suggest to visit the Gravensteen Castle and the Saint Peters Abbey (=the oldest monument in Flanders). See http://www4.gent.be/sintpietersabdij/ Both attractions offer a movie guide. http://www.visitgent.be

Enjoy Belgium!

Thank you Kurt! We definitely had Gravensteen Castle on our list-hadn't considered St. Peter's Abbey. Not sure how much time we'll have. Our day is filling up!
