I have just made my reservations for December at the Ghent Novotel.

The full charges have already been billed to my Visa.

Is this usual? I don't mind pre-paying, just want to make sure that

when I arrive the hotel will recognize we are paid up.

Most hotels I have dealt with don't charge months in advance.

On my September trip, the Mercure hotel (owned by the same group that owns Novotel) in Luxembourg charged me in advance for the first night's stay. The Ibis hotels (again, same owners as Novotel and Mercure) that I stayed at in Germany and Belgium did not charge my credit card until my arrival.

Sometimes, if you book through the Accor website, you'll get a special deal but only if they can immediately charge your card.

It is unusual that they would charge in advance but not uncommon.

I brought along a copy of the charge to my account, just in case the Mercure tried to double bill me, but there was no problem at check out.

Don't worry I have used loads of Novotels(including Ghent Centrum) and always prepaid with no problems.
