Brussels-Bruges-Amsterdam: how many days? in what order?

Hello, we are traveling from Paris to Brussels and would also like to see Bruges and Amsterdam. We have app. 8 days. How many nights do you suggest, and would it be best to take the Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam first, then go to Brussels? Can Bruges be done as a day trip from Amsterdam or Brussels? Thank you!

You could just look at a map: eurail.com/trains-europe/…trains-belgium

The Thalys route is Paris-Brussels-Antwerp-Amsterdam and the shortest route to Brugge is from Brussels (1 hr). So you can either do Paris-Brussels-Brugge-Brussels-Amsterdam or Paris-Brussels-Brugge-Antwerp-Amsterdam.

Bearing in mind that between Paris and Brussels, Thalys is the only option whereas between there and Amsterdam, you can choose between high-speed and non-high-speed trains.

If you buy ABS ticket from Paris-Nord to Brugge (automatic if you purchase from www.b-europe.com/Travel - select from "Belgium" list if using e.g. www.thalys.com) this will cover you on the Thalys to Bruxelles-Midi (with a reserved seat) and normal domestic train from there to Brugge (any train on that date or the day after), at a better price than if you were to buy the Brussels-Brugge ticket separately (I think it's €7 instead of €13.80). The same applies with respect to starting your journey in Brugge on domestic train and changing to Thalys in Brussels or Antwerp for Amsterdam (Brugge to Antwerp otherwise costs €14.50).

Thalys prices vary according to how early you can book, while IC fares are invariable. Brugge to Amsterdam on IC trains (4h14) costs €43.80 (Thalys, which takes 3h05, typically €62, €76, €86...). I would ignore routes involving Fyra as its operation is a bit erratic at present.
