Reasonable breakfast near Sofitel

We will be staying at Sofitel Brussels on a Friday night, and I'd like suggestions as to a place for breakfast the next morning. The hotel wants 28 euro per person.

I presume you mean the Sofitel Brussels EUROPE, in Place Jourdan.

If you want an American-style breakfast, you would have to stay in your hotel. Otherwise, the best choice in the area would be the café Au Vatel on Place Jourdan.

For less than 15 eur you can have coffe, orange juice, eggs and some bread/croissants at the place suggested above. Open from 7am. It is on the square just outside your hotel, next to the flower shop.

That's assuming that you wouldn't say "a Friday night" for NEXT Friday (or Saturday), as it's currently closed for summer vacation.

Can you recommend a good place for breakfast near the Sofitel Le Louise?

Many thanks.

You are quite spoiled for choice in that area.

Coming out of the Sofitel Louise and turning left, on the corner with Avenue Louise is Haagen-Däzs where you can get coffee and a muffin (but ask for this "nature, sans décoration" if you don't want it all dressed up on a plate with sauce/ fruit purée, like a dessert..).

On the other (Nespresso) side of that part of Avenue Louise, you will see 2 pedestrianised streets, the first is rue Jourdan and the second rue Jean Stas. In rue J. Stas you have, first, La Crémerie de la Vache, which does coffee, a range of teas, and cakes/pastries, and at the far end, MacSweeneys pub where you can get an Irish breakfast/brunch - although I don't think it opens very early in the morning.

If instead of turning off the Avenue Louise - this narrow part is known as "le goulet", which means bottleneck - you continue down to Place Stéphanié, turning right, you will find Pâtisserie Paul for croissants etc.

If you turn left and pass the KBC bank, the next turning on the left is Rue de Stassart. At 131 is The Coffee Shop, which opens at 07:30 and does continental breakfasts except on Sundays when they do brunch, see http://www.lecoffeeshop.be/findus.html - and at 121, Tea and Eat, http://users.skynet.be/tea-eat/

Virtually opposite the Sofitel Louise is The Hotel (formerly the Brussels Hilton), and to the left of this is a gate into the Parc d'Egmont. If you cross the park, exit into rue aux Laines, and turn right, you will come to the Petit Sablon. Turning left brings you to the Grand Sablon, and a little way down on the left of this, you will come to Le Pain Quotidien, no more than about 10 mins walk away from the Sofitel. This also opens early and does continental breakfasts, boiled eggs and the Dutch "uitsmijter", with ham and egg.

On the other side of the square, downhill from both Wittamers (pastry shop - with a café above - and chocolate shop) there is a vaguely American-themed café/ restaurant at the entrance to the Comic Book Centre: I don't think the American theme extends to breakfast, but it might be worth checking out.

If you're looking for a brunch on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday) there are also lots of places around Brussels, including near the Sofitel Louise. One of my favorites is the L’Orangerie du Parc d’Egmont, situated just behind The Hotel across the street. Here is my full list - bestofbrusselsblog.com/2012/…
