Brussels Airport

What is the most economical manner to get to Brussels (Marriott near Grand Place) from Brussels Airport?

Train from BRU to Gare du Nord (€2.90) then underground tram from there to Bourse (€1.50). However, if you have suitcases it isn't very convenient to travel by tram.

I just realised it is actually 40c cheaper by bus, which costs €4 including any change to bus, tram or metro. But this is only really convenient if you are arriving midweek when you can change to a bus for Bourse (e.g. 95) at Place du Luxembourg or Trône. At weekends the airport bus stops at Schuman, so to get to Bourse you would have to change to the metro to De Brouckère and then the underground tram (but it would be better to walk 5 minutes) to Bourse.

Not sure what the Bourse is; we need to get from the airport to Central Station. From the Central Station it is a short walk. We'll only have a small amount of luggage. Thank you for your help!

You do not in fact "need" to go to Central Station, your hotel is opposite the Bourse (stock exchange), which is also the name of the pre-metro (underground tram) station the Marriott is virtually on top of. The pre-metro line in question runs between Gare du Nord and Gare du Midi, NOT calling at Gare centrale which is some way away from that axis.

Gare centrale is near the Grand' Place and the Marriott is near the Grand' Place but they are on opposite sides, therefore not particularly near each other. If you do get off there, you will have a good 10-minute walk unless of course you take a bus. It would be quicker to get off at Nord and take the tram from there, arriving right by your hotel.

If you look at the map on here (reconstitute into one line), Gare centrale is near the s of Bruxelles.

WOW... thanks for the help. Nothing is worse than hauling your luggage around in a place you are not familiar with! I appreciate your suggestions very much.

it is not a short walk to from the central station to the Marriott neither is it particularly close to the Grand place.

I would not take any luggage on a tram unless i really had to.

Well, on the one hand you say you only have a small amount of luggage, on the other you say it isn't very convenient hauling luggage about.. The trams in use on the Nord-Midi axis are all (unless this has changed by the time you arrive!) older ones, which are high up with 2 steps up and narrow entrances. There is nowhere to store luggage inside: you are not supposed to block the aisle and it isn't always convenient to stay near the door, but if you only have a smallish bag each this should be no problem.

If it's a weekday, you might prefer to take the airport bus and change at Place du Luxembourg (walk around the corner to the square, stop is on the right) to the 95, which will take you right to Bourse, stopping outside the Falstaff. You can buy the ticket on board the airport bus for €4. When you get on the 95 you need to put your ticket into the orange machine to mark the "transit". You stay on till the terminus, and when you get off, walk back the way the bus came in, with the stock exchange building on your right. Your hotel is across the road and to the right, above a Macdonalds.
