How to get to Waterloo Battlefiled from Brussels Midi Train

Arriving Brussels Midi Train station (from Amsterdam). What would be the best way to get to the Waterloo Battlefield?

Where would we catch Bus 365, mentioned in the Waterloo Battlefield web site?

Buses W and 365, both heading for Braine L'Alleud, start outside Bruxelles-Midi station. Take the Avenue Fonsny exit (direction of the highest platform numbers) and you will see the Ibis Hotel across the road, the bus stop is on an "island" in front of it.

I believe it would be best to buy a day-card (carte d'un jour) from the driver for about €6 rather than paying for each trip, especially if you would be getting off in Waterloo itself for the Wellington Museum (opposite the tourist office, where the bus stops). Otherwise/after that, the stop for the battlefield is Butte de Lion (Mont St. Jean) just after Waterloo proper - you will see the lion mount from the road as you approach.

Have you any idea what times the trains/bus depart and are they regular?

Bus: www.infotec.be/index.aspx… - put W or 365a in the white box and click on "search". Select date (or equivalent day of the week as timetables generally vary between weekdays, Sat and Sun) and download pdf timetable. Btw I think a day card (covering return journey, obviously) now costs €7.50.

Train: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en entering Bruxelles-Midi (or -central or whatever) as departure station and Waterloo as destination station.

However, by train you can only get to the town of Waterloo (or Braine L'Alleud), not the battlefield itself. See (ignoring the stuff about arriving by Eurostar) http://www.seat61.com/Belgium.htm#Waterloo - cost is €3.50 single, €7 standard return (e.g. weekday), €4.40 weekend return (Waterloo) or €3.90 single, €7.80 standard return, €4.80 weekend return (Braine L'Alleud), plus taxi/bus from there to Mont St. Jean, unless walking. The buses don't call at the station in Waterloo, which is about 10 mins walk from the main road Brussels-Waterloo-Braine L'Alleud, so you would have to walk up to the main road: you come out next to the tourist office (opposite the Wellington Museum), and the bus stop for buses to Mont St. Jean is in front of the church next to that.
