What is legal and what is not ????

Been trying to find out for the past few days what is legal (substance wise) and whats not in AMS.

Cant seem to find a straight answer, which im so surprised about.

I know cannabis is legal to smoke in the coffee shops and I know the likes of Heroin and Cocaine arent.

But what about all the drugs in the middle

eg

Ecstasy, acid etc...

what is the law with them and can they be purchased legally in shops

Hope this isnt going to cause a massive debate as not looking for tips on how to score, just want to know the facts.

thanks

Just to be clear, pot is o.k., not legal, just tolerated.

And strictly speaking even cannabis (pot / weed / hash) isn't legal either, but is 'tolerated'. Something about European laws preventing the Netherlands from technically legalizing cannabis...

Please only use it in coffeeshops and don't be one of those rude, childish tourists smoking it in the streets.

XTC, speed, acid, crack, cocaine, heroin etc all illegal. And the option of having your pills tested for safety at house parties is also a thing of the past, I believe (to test if they don't have glass particles in them for example, or dangerous quantities of substances).

A new trend in Amsterdam is lachgas = laughing gas. People sell balloons of it at parties for a few euros. They fill those balloons from a special gas bottle. You breathe the gas from the balloon, in and out and in and out. Its effect only lasts a minute or so. Some people have a high "better than cocaine" (quote from a guy we were watching), others just laugh their @sses off for one minute. Then it's gone. They were also selling them during the Liberation Day street parties standing right next to various policemen and -women, so I guess it's not illegal. The dangers and effects are not known though! It isn't. No drugs are legal in the Netherlands. The Dutch operate a so-called "gedoogbeleid" (tolerance policy), which means the use of cannabis by private individuals under certain conditions is *not prosecuted*, even though it is against the law.

Oops, I didn't read the page about laughing gas yet. Apparently it's illegal to *sell* it as a drug (instead of for medical reasons, like a dentist might), but not punishable to use it. I guess the police were in a very good mood during Liberation Day...

This legal vs tolerated is a silly silly discussion.

If you specify in law how much of a product you can legally buy and use then buying that product is on no way illegal. To suggest it is is beyond silly.

Grass sales are a very regulated business in Amsterdam. A legal business. To suggest that business is just tolerated makes no sense.

For Cripe sake the city sells a license to sell this product.

Grass sales have a limit that can be sold to individuals, it has an amount that can be kept on hand at a business, and it is taxed like any other legal product.

The police are not just turning a blind eye. They are enforcing the laws as written.

Toleration is what happens in the US for most states. The police will likely turn a blind eye. They will likely tolerate your use. They might arrest you.

Unlike Amsterdam where they will never arrest you for buying that legal product .

It is not a discussion. It is fact.

Riding a bike without lights on after dark is also illegal. And is also tolerated. The police in Amsterdam have officially announced that they are putting their priorities elsewhere. That doesn't make it legal to ride a bike without lights on after dark.

Why else would there be political debates about legalizing it? If it were already legal, such debates would not be necessary. jellinek.nl/vraag-antwoord/…
