Question about: Volendam & Edam & Marken and Day Ticket

Hi Everyone!

We are going to visit Amsterdam in May for 4 days and planning to visit Edam& Volendam & Marken.

We are going to buy Holland Pass which provides a 48 Hrs free transport ticket and use it for public transportation in Amsterdam. And buy an extra 48 hrs for remaining 2 days. So my questions are :)

*Is the ticket HP provides same as Amsterdam & Region Day Ticket?

*What will be cheapest way to visit Edam& Volendam & Marken and Keukenhof in 24 hrs? Buying a bus ticket for 3 villages and K.hof each or Amsterdam & Region Day ticket?

*Do you suggest buying souvenirs and cheeses from Amsterdam or Volendam etc?

*What will be the best route for these 3 villages? Which one should we visit first? And which days should we visit? (We'll be in Amsterdam from Sat to Wed)

*Does Amsterdam Region Ticket also covers Schiphol Train?

Many Thanks :)

1. Re: Question about: Volendam & Edam & Marken and Day Ticket

Hi there,

* Holland Pass solely gives GVB ticket for inside Amsterdam. Not Hof not Waterland not Schiphol.

* Well firstly it's NOT recommended to do Waterland and Hof on same day, as they are on totally opposing sides of Amsterdam. Split over 2 days.

* Region ticket (13.50 euro) or Waterland pass (10 euro) each have their pros and cons, as Region ticket also covers GVB area and trip to Hof

* Souvenirs are cheapest in back street stores in e.g. Amsterdam Nieuwendijk and not in front street stores in either Amsterdam or Volendam etc.

All the best,

2. Re: Question about: Volendam & Edam & Marken and Day Ticket

Tjhe region ticket does not cover any trains but it does cover the 197 airport bus which can be more convenient than the train depending on where you are staying.

The HP transport ticket is only for GVB so inside Amsterdam.

I doubt you will be able to do Edam, Volendam, Marken and K'hof in 24 hours. You might be able to do the first three one day and then go to the K'hof on that ticket the next but by the time you left I would have though the 24 hours would be up. You could of course just buy two region tickets. That would get you back to Amsterdam (which would be around €8 each) and another 24 hours travel or just pay the driver for one way tickets.

I would do Edam/Volendam then take the private ferry to Marken (not covered by your pass) otherwise you will need to double back by bus.
