Walking to Javaeiland !

I am planning to walk from our Apt at Raamgracht in Newmarket to Javaeiland. Hope this is a pleaant walk (roads with sidewalks !!). Checked the google map which showed 2 miles, but the roads (prins hendrikaade, kattenburgerstraat ) look like highways !!! Hence the question !

Thanks for any advice from the local experts !!!!

Hi there,

Sidewalks everywhere yes but PH kade is kind of noisy city highway yes. Kattenburgerstraat is more moderate. Try to use alternate parallel streets, much quieter...

All the best,

There aren't any highways in central Amsterdam , the closest thing would be the road through the IJ tunnel. If you use google street view then you can walk the streets.

Thanks !

Only concern was that the route looks to be through quite busy roads !

No because Lenny did what was suggested above: taking a less busy road. His map avoids PH kade, even brings you along a few nice canals, and only Kattenburgerstraat is a bit busy but not at all highway-like.

Have walking fun,

Is there some reason for the Java-eiland? Nothing wrong with it but there are prettier parts of town

Just wanted to note that PH kade is not the smartest abbreviation. as there is both a Piet Heinkade and a Prins Hendrikkade.
