Travelling by Rail in Europe

I need advice for my upcoming travel in Europe. Date: 17 May - 3 June. Tentavively, Cities that I would like to visit:

Fly into Amsterdam, Berlin, Salszburg (Austria), Zermatt, flyout of Zurich.

Please advice:

1. The most economical rail pass to purchase. I am quite confuse from what I have read online - the Eurail? Europe Rail? etc...The cost?

2. The must see and experience in the cities mentioned above.

3. Considering the the tentative route above, I welcome any suggestions or change.

My idea of travelling is just doing something different, sight seeing, breathing the air and have a taste of the culture of different places.

4. Any suggestions on how to schedule the itinerary that will help maximising the rail pass, cost saving on hotels and enjoying the sights.

Thanks and looking forward to your expert suggestions.

Just go online and book Amsterdam Centraal to Berlin from 39 euros at the German Railways site www.bahn.de/en

Book Berlin to Salzburg from 39 euros also at www.bahn.de/en

Book Salzburg to Zermatt fro around 39 euros at www.oebb.at (it might book to Zermatt, if not, book to Zurich from 29 euros and add a Zurich-Zermatt Swiss ticket when you get to Zurich, bought at the station, you can check prices at www.sbb.ch)

Rail bookings usually open 90 days in advance. Book early for these cheapest fares. No refunds, no changes at the cheapest rates, of course.

With a railpass typically working out at perhaps 70 euros per day, this should be far cheaper if you don't really NEED the unlimited travel and total flexibility of a pass.
