Ajax game with child

Hello i have been looking at taking my 8yr old son on an adventure during half term, and found P&O are doing some great offers from Hull, so the plan is take him on a mini cruise, now he loves football and plays for his local team, but he has never been to a game, Ajax are playing ASWH in the 3rd round of the Dutch cup, so i thought that would tie into our trip perfectly and be an amazing 1st football game for a young lad, But i could do with advice on how to get tickets, i cant see them for sale anywhere, or can we just turn up on the night and buy at the gate, is there a family area, im not a football regular and don't want to end up with an 8yr old in a hostile stand, i only mention this as i saw tickets available for the away fans and it mentioned police escort, is this match kid friendly ? also i will need to book a hotel for the match night (Tuesday 29th) would it be better to get a city center hotel and travel to the ground, as there is a hotel within walking distance, but i'm not sure if there is anything around the area of the arena after the match to go see or anywhere around there to go out for a bite to eat.

thank you for any advice

Stay in the city center and take public transit to and from the Arena. For suggestions on what area to stay in, how to use public transit and answers to other questions you may have; read the Top Questions on the right side of this page.

Not sure how the supports for ASWH v Ajaz will act, someone else will have to chime in. As for tickets I doubt they will be sold out and you can probably get them on arrival from Ticket Box, the official football vendor. http://www.ticketbox.nl/

Thanks for that, it looks like the tickets don't go on free sale until the 16th, can you suggest any other things that are child friendly to do in Amsterdam such as an indoor play area, or child friendly restaurants, i have also just realised my username, its a total coincidence to the question about football, its actually short for A Jackson.

The Science Center NEMO has been a big hit when friends had young family members over. http://www.e-nemo.nl/en/ Tun Fun an indoor playground easily accessible by public transit. http://www.tunfun.nl/index.php/ Or Race Planet if Tun Fun looks a little to childish for your son. http://raceplanet.com/

ASWH is a team from the amateur leagues, so should be a friendly atmosphere. I noticed tickets are only 5 euros :)

Tickets go on general sale to the public from 16 October, the stadium will probably be less than half full and you'll easily be able to buy them on the night of the game. The family-friendly areas are in the lower tier, along either long side of the pitch, or behind the North goal. Anywhere except section 410 is OK for the two of you, this is where the ultras will be with their drums and fireworks. ASWH will probably take only a handful of fans, non-league teams are poorly supported here compared with England.

The ground is in a dull modern office park on the edge of town, close to one of the dodgiest estates in the country (Bijlmer), it's perfectly safe, but I wouldn't stay here as it's incredibly dull and boring.

Just stay in town and take the Metro to the match. As Casualist mentioned try to get tickets for the lower tier as the upper ones can be miles from the action. I doubt Ajax will put out their best team for this match but for an 8 year old boy it will still be great.

There might still be Metro closures at night so once you get your hotel ask back about transport to the stadium.

thank you very much for the advice, there's some good ideas there, the Nemo and the zoo are looking a good option and within easy distance from the center, so is the race planet but would have to try suss out the transport,

also thanks for the heads up on the game and where to sit, its good to hear thet it might not be full so should get a ticket i will try buy one before we set off, it doesn't really matter if its not the 1st team as like you said for an 8yr old it will still be a fantastic experience, he has never been to a stadium, and his favourite teams are Barca, R'Madrid and Chelsea in that order, picked off his own back, which is odd because everyone he plays with are either Man U, Burnley or Leeds, but im pretty sure after this trip Ajax will jump to the top of his list :-)

will it be fairly straight forward getting back into central station after the game ? will there be extra trains put on to cope with the extra amount of people, or is it a free for all scrum to get on a train, might leave a little early just in case.

The metro runs until about 00:30 and the trains until after 1:00 so no worries on getting back into town. Race Planet is reachable by public transit as well, use the following site for door to door directions throughout the country. http://9292/nl/en

There are Metro closures at night until November but I see from the GVB site that there is an exception on the 29th because of the match so you can get either the Metro or take a train.
