Fab hotel

I'm bringing my husband to Amsterdam for his 30th and looking for recommendations for a great hotel. It needs to be central. I'd like something quite funky or unusual. A spa would be a nice touch but not necessary. Budget would be big enough but obv good value is preferable.

Funky and unusual?

I knew we should have bought out the Black Tulip and kept it open.

Funky, unusual, with a spa, for an unnamed budget?

Nothing jumps out at me that hits all those.

Maybe others will have better luck?

It will not hit funky or unusual.

But it should come in within your unnamed budget.

Bidding on Priceline NYOP for an upscale , well located, birthday pleasing , 5 star , for the cost of a 2 star.

Or a 4 star

Well I could not see the recent upgrades that took the a Brinker from the worlds worst to one of the best hotels.

But I can only assume it includes a spa.

Funky and unusual?

Maybe something in here: http://www.quirkyhotels.com (great site, you may even decide to change your plans and opt for one of those fantastic hotels).

Not unusual, but beautiful location: Pulitzer. Haven't stayed there myself.

I still say Pulitzer is the hotel in Amsterdam with the "it" factor.

My dream is to be like George Clooney and Brad Pitt - stay at the Pulitzer and smoke at Dampkring.

@ddavis: I've read that they are having financial difficulties and may shut down in October. Not sure what the latest is though. coffeeshopdirect.info/viewtopic.php…

Depending on when you are coming you must check this out. They open in November and will be one of the most unusual hotels anywhere.

I stayed at the Pulitzer for a week last May. The location is indeed fab & there are many lovely restaurants in the area. Anywhere around the canal belt is walkable from there + tram stops at the Westerkerk near if not in the mood. The breakfast & grill restaurant are very festive + the garden lovely. It consists of many old buildings integrated to a huge hotel. This means a very unusual layout + many stairs.

Unfortunately the service did not make us very happy and we are not picky let me say. It's not easy to give a personal touch for hundreds of people, but I got the feeling they didn't even try. The lovely bar tender at the coffee shop beeing the exeption. The front desk was crowded and one had to stand in line for ages to get your turn, unless you went the in the night. They couldn't tell me where the closest pharmacy was. The concierge has a bad week too. They forgot to make our restaurant reservations. Twice. So make your own just in case. Lovely, but not up to the expectations the "Luxury" in the name assumes. Or maybe my husband didn't resemble Mr Pitt enough :D
