National Holidays Amsterdam Mini Cruise

Hiya im just wanting to hear from anyone who has been on a mini cruise to Amsterdam through National Holidays Coach trips. Did you enjoy it? have enough time to explore the city? how was the ferry over night travel? Any details would be much appreciated as thinking of going in May 2013 many thanks x

Perhaps not the definitive answer you want as I have not done that holiday specifically. However I have crossed the North Sea by ferry many times from Newcastle. We've never had an awful crossing. we've crossed in winter time while it was quite blowy but the ferry was very stable. Generally in the summer crossings are part of the holiday with pleasant if breezy drinks on the deck then a restaurant meal ( sometimes we just take picnic food). cabins are small but fine for a night- DFDS have private facilities including a shower.

We often do a mini trip which gives us about 6 hours in Amsterdam. Plenty of time to see SOME sights but it's such a smashing city you couldn't do it all in one go. We are going in April for 5 nights and are still going to be short of time. We have done several short organised trips to Europe (not National hols)and have found them useful for getting a taste of whats on offer

Just back today on a National Holidays mini cruise £49 each.

Travelled on Pride of Bruges (P & O) - entertainment very good, bunks in cabin comfortable. Cabins basic but clean. Don't bother with the meals on board as they are expensive even on the meal deal and you have to be up very early (6am on the way out, 5.30am on the way back). We took cereal bars, travel kettle, tea, coffee, dried milk and mugshots. These gave us light breakfast and snack for evening. Had a proper meal lunchtime in Amsterdam.

Had about 51/2 hours in Amsterdam. Went on canal cruise run by Rederij - lasted about an hour and cost E8.50 each - quite interesting.

Amsterdam is generally very expensive especially when it comes to alcohol. We got stung E17 for 2 brandys and two coffees, someone else on our coach was charged E20 for the same thing so ask the price before ordering.

Bottles of spirits are very expensive and are only available in specialist liquor stores, the supermarkets we found only sold wine.

We had a smooth crossing both ways.

If you are wanting cheap cigarettes and tobacco go on the Bruges trip instead.

On the ferry ask the prices of the goods in sterling and in Euros - It might be cheaper to pay in Euros depending on the exchange rate

hope this helps

hi cammy5. we went on the mini cruise 18th june. meal deal was £22 each way pre booked. they have tried to posh up the four seasons restaurant now renamed ( THE KITCHEN)..!food was ok, lots of choices. go early as the queues build up, a bit of a shambles now I think..the costa café does sandwiches etc..i did not wish to waste time eating in Amsterdam that is why we eat on board. in Amsterdam next street to the damrak there is a burger king and macdonalds that do burgers for 1euro. plus lots of snack shops. our driver got lost in Rotterdam, blamed his sat nav! highlights?,the 1hour cruise is great value.lots of them leaving in summer.and you see a lot more of Amsterdam.we have been on the mini cruises 4times now and still have just scraped the top of the barrel.there are 4bars on board £3.75 a pint of stella.
