Another long layover question

Assuming no delays, my plane lands at 5:30 am and I have a 7 hour layover (leaving at 12:40). I'm traveling alone and wanted the convenience of the group tour that leaves from the airport - at 9 - to take a boat ride. Is this even reasonable? I've taken plenty of tours that didn't leave on time. Or should I just take a train in town and figure how to do myself - not speaking the language. Oh, and it's a Sunday. Thanks for any help.

Just take the train and do it yourself, everyone speaks English so its easy peasy.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a feeling that would be the best way to go, given the timing. Although I live in a city, I rarely use public transportation - but I was able to get around Italy last year (although traveling with somebody) Will spend some time on the forums getting ideas/directions. Have a great Sunday!

Once you are through customs at Schiphol , it will take you 10 mins to hop downstairs to the train, another 40 mins "with waiting time" to get to CS and then its a 10 min walk to the boats and if you meet someone who does not speak English they will be a tourist.

Once you arrived at Central Station you can take a stroll alongside the canals, have a look in the Red Light District (all very near the Station) before you catch the one hour canal boat tour which usually starts at 9 am.

Then it's time to head back, as it is best to be back at the airport one and a half to two hours before you flight.

Oh, and read the Top Questions at your right for more info.
