arnhem folk museum vs Zaanse Schaans

Debating if we should skip Arnhem or keep it in our itinerary if we also plan to visit Zaanse Schaans- is it quite similar?

Hi there,

Well similar in terms of content. In terms of magnitude and variation Arnhem wins hands-down, it's 20 x bigger than ZS and has a huge variety of buildings not only windmills. And is less commercialised / salespush oriented.

All the best,

They are not similar at all. ZS is focussed on buildings and windmills from the Zaan region from the 17th / 18th century. You can visit some of them but it is not a museum. It shows the windmills and other buildings in their natural setting on the bank of the Zaan river. A typical visit would take a couple of hours.

Arnhem Openlucht Museum is a real museum. You pay an entrance fee and get to visit buildings from different parts of the Netherlands from different era's. It shows how people live here from the 17th century onwards. It is much larger and would take an entire day to visit.

It al depends on your personal interests if you should visit both.
