My plans are to fly from Chicago to Amsterdam to Paris and would like to spend three days in Amsterdam on a lay over is that an option?

Yes it is. Most logical is an open-jaw ticket: outgoing to AMS and returning from CDG. If it's with Delta they can also sell you a single ticket AMS-CDG for a good price but if it's another airline better do the AMS-CDG part by Thalys train. City centre to city centre quicker than flying and in many ways more comfortable too.

All the best,

I also agree with Erik about the open jaw and taking the train to Paris.

Not so sure.

You would have to check with the airline in question.

But 2x my Mrs and I did tihis.

Not to Paris but to Prague amd Madrid on different trips. We did this with miles.

We flew CSA to Amsterdam from the US. But all CSA flights to Amsterdam stop in Prague first.

We spent 6 nights there in Prague.

Then continued on to AMS.

It's at least worth checking out to see if doable.

It would basically work with Air France or KLM only if it worked at all.

John it is very easy to do an open jaw or multi city, you can just select the option on the airline website. It often costs the same or even less than a normal return.

You can buy tickets from the NShispeed.

Yes Ron but with my way there is no need to spend any money on a train ticket.

All your city to city stuff is on that airline ticket.

For our Madrid trip we flew KLM USA to Madrid. We had an hour or two in AMS on the way to Madrid.

On the way back home we stopped off in AMS for a week or so.

If this can be done and if at a reasonable cost there is no doubt this would be the best way.

A lot of ------if.

For Prague-AMS we flew CSA to Amsterdam. Our initial stop in Prague turned into a 6 night stay.

Then on to Amsterdam.

Then a sister airline from AMS back home direct.

No trains, buses, or additional air tickets.
