Hi NVQ08,

I think your English is pretty good! I can understand you very nicely. I don't think you'll have a problem -- just be patient and bring along a good dictionary!

Hello, there are various online websites that offer free basic courses in languages. I don't know where you can find English but you might try one of the major broadcasting companies because the BBC offers several foreign languages. If you speak French, you will also find many in Switzerland who speak French.

Your written English is very good and I am sure you will do well. Just remember to speak slowly and listen carefully because English is a second language for most Swiss as well and it is difficult to understand when the language is spoken with an accent.

Have a great visit!

Get a simple list of Vietnamese - English for travelers, and also Vietnamese - German

I did find some people who do not speak English but only a few. Also some restaurant menus are in German but not English.

Keep a pen and notepad with you all the time to help, especially with prices and times.

Hi, first, do not worry about grammar. If someone tries to speak to you in Vietnamese, you are not insulted or worried if it is not exactly correct! The same is true if you are using English. Speak slowly and as clearly as you can. Ask the other person to speak slowly also. Most people in Switzerland speak with travellers so they know how to help visitors who don't speak the Swiss languages.

I wish you a very good holiday.

hallo NVQ,

I really think you will have no language problems when here. The swiss are very tolerant and take time to help out.

here is a link for an online english course:

http://www.learn-english-online.org/

and a more difficult one:

audioenglish.net/english-learning/efl_travel…

and a dictionary:

http://vdict.com/

write down a few phrases that you might need, for instance how to ask for food or directions. Since you say that you do not speak very well, have paper and pen with you, because as S and KM already said, I also think your written english is pretty good.

Tak
