Day trip to Rheinfalls

Hello!

I am trying to work out a day trip from Zurich to Rheinfalls and would be VERY grateful if one of the lovely Swiss experts could tell me if what I am planning is feasible. Zurich to Neuhassen by train leaving about 10.00. Visit to falls and Schloss Laufen. Walk or bus to Schaffhausen. Do a bit of wandering there. Then is is possible to take a boat to Stein am Rhein for some more sightseeing before taking a late afternoon train back to Zurich?

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Very easy to do using the ZVV S-Bahn trains. Buy the 9-o'clock day pass [9-Uhr Tagespass] for 23 CHF, leave after 9 AM and use the pass for travel on the entire system for the rest of the day.

if you feel up to it, Jump in at the Rhinefalls swim down to the Badi-Dachsen (about 40 min's) And get the boat ( Maendli has a shuttle between Badi-Dachsen and Rhinefalls)back up to the Rhinefalls.

It is very easy to get there but I would STRONGLY recommend spending my time elsewhere. It was a HUGE disappointment.

We were there in May 2007 and took the bus from the train station to the stop for the Falls. We walked down the hill to the falls and around the curve in the river. The falls are interesting but not that spectacular. The area is not very pretty and only marginally maintained. The whole place looked "tired" and the refreshment buildings looked tacky.

Then we hiked back up the hill, caught the bus and went back to the train station.

We had the BIGGEST laugh since the train to Zurich went right above the falls and had a the best view. We had come from St. Gallen so we did not see the falls on our arrival.

So, if you really want to see the falls, just take the train from Zurich and you will save yourself the hike and still get a great view.

(We did not take the boat trip from Stein am Rhein but the train from St. Gallen went along Lake Constance and the area was very pretty. You should easily have time to take the boat trip. The area around the falls seems to be open to the public at all times so you could get there early in the morning and have the rest of the day for the boat trip. I would like to visit that area of Switzerland again so I could have more time along Lake Constance. I'd like to visit Stein am Rhein and the Flower Island. Across the lake we could see Germany and there was a zeppelin above the Zeppelin Museum at Friedrichshafen ?sp)
