Overnite in Zug

We will be passing through Zug on/around Dec 3. We will arrive late afternoon and leave the next afternoon. Please share notable experiences and a nice suggestion for dinner. Any hotel suggestions would also be appreciated, as I cannot find too many. We will have a car.

A couple of dinner suggestions:

If you want an upmarket option, the Restaurant Aklin in Colinplatz is a good option - very nice decor, good food, friendly service, English spoken. Not cheap though, a three-course meal with wine will set you back something close to 100 CHF per person.

A more rustic option could be the Restaurant Brandenberg, next to Schutzengel railway station (1 minute by train or 10 minutes on foot from the centre). Big, noisy room, long tables, beer-hall atmosphere, simple but good food (Schnitzel, sausages, etc).

Thank you - we plan to be casual - so dinner option 2 may work best.

The 2 old town hotels you should consider are the Hotel Ochsen (sometimes called CIty Hotel) and Hotel Loewen. Both reviewed on TA and 1 mins walk from each other.

BTW, Aklin is lovely. It's not 'un-casual' and it is very distinctively Swiss. There are lots of other options nearby in the old town or lakefront (various Pizzerias - Puccini being the best IMO, the Rathauskeller etc.).

Hi, all restaurants include service in the price of the meal so you don't need to add 15-20% to the prices above. Also, restaurants have their menus on the outside, usually right by the front door, and it is perfectly acceptable to walk along browsing menus to choose a restaurant. Hope this helps.

Hi TjDj

Hotel: My visitors prefer the hotel Loewen at Landsgemeindeplatz - http://www.loewen-zug.ch - which is in the historic center.

Restaurant: Restaurant Moosrank - www.moosrank.ch and tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g672557-d2… - at Baar offers great meals and the hosts are very nice and they speak excellent English. Take the bus to the station Moosrank or drive by car in direction of Aegeri/Menzingen. It is just at the crossing to Allenwinden in an old house. From there you can overlook Zug.

There are many great restaurants at Zug which are only partly mentioned above (for example the restaurant Widder - www.gasthaus-widder.ch -, the restaurant Domus Zug - www.restaurant-domus.ch/ (same place as the hotel Loewen) - etc. etc. etc.

Enjoy your meal
