A day trip to Montreux

Hi,

As part of our Europe trip in May 2012, we will be in Switzerland for 5 nights. 2 in Lucerne and 3 in Interlaken. 1 day we wud spend in Lucerne moving around and the other day we would go to Mt. Titlis.

Then, in interlaken, 1 day we would do adventure sports, 1 day for jungfrau and we hav 1 day remaining. We were planning to go to Montreux to see the the Chillon castle as a castle is not part of our itinerary. Request feedback and suggestions on this, We are a young couple.

Hi nvparanjape

Look at www.luzern.com and the Top Questions about Lucerne (TA Lucerne forum) to know what you can do and see in the Lucerne area.

For the Jungfrau area look at www.myjungfrau.ch and you will see that there is much more to do then you expect.

If you would like to spend a full day to visit the Chillon castle I recommend you take the scenic Goldenpassline (on www.sbb.ch/en input from Interlaken to Montreux via Gstaad) and take the faster routing for your way back.

To be honest, for me all this would be too busy.

Can you not work the Goldenpass train ride from Interlaken to Montreux into your itinerary so you do not have to return to Interlaken? You mention you are travelling in Europe. Where are you going when you leave Switzerland? If you could, for example, leave via Geneva that would make more sense thank backtracking to the Oberland.

On the other hand, if you just want to visit a castle you could consider going to Thun which is close to Interlaken and there is a nice castle there. Not nearly as wonderful as Chillon, I grant you, but very nice nonetheless!

Thanks for your feedback. After Switzerland, we are going to Venice. Train reservation from brig to venice is done.

It is not that we just want to see a castle only. we r already visiting Titlis and Jungfrau, so going to Zermatt wud probably be a repetition. So we thought visiting a castle would be something different. We have 1 day in hand and we are open to visiting any place.

Hi nvparanjape

There are no repetitions in Switzerland. After every turn you do here you have a new landscape in front of you. This is what makes this country so special.

Anyway, Hambagahle is right, from Montreux you would be closer to Brig then from the Jungfrau area. So it would make sence to stay at Montreux - see www.montreux-vevey.com and Top Questions about Montreux (TA Montreux forum) instead of traveling back and recome.

There is a train every morning that stops in Montreux around 8 something and goes direct to venice with NO change needed. This is excellent as it means you do not have the hassle of getting off and then on again in Milan, and since that station is known for pickpockets and luggage thieves it is more than a good idea!
