four hours spare between Zermatt and Geneva

we are travelling back from Zermatt to Geneva on a Saturday in July. need to be at the airport for 20:00 to check in. trying to get some ideas of something to do on the way. Thought of doing part of the journey by boat but it seems a long voyage and can't get the timings right. Any other ideas greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Hi, you could go to the airport, put your luggage in a locker or, if you can, check it in and then head back to Geneva (it's only 5 or 6 minutes by train from the airport to the city centre) for a nice walk through the Old Town and dinner. That way, you're rid of the luggage and are close enough to the airport to make it easy to get there without worry.

Hi Richard W,

I would stop in Montreux -- put your suitcases in a luggage locker at the train station, then go down to the lake. Walk along the lake for 45 minutes to get to Chillon castle. See the castle, take the bus (#201) back to Montreux and settle into a lakeside cafe for lunch or cake and enjoy the views.

Have fun as you plan!

If you like art, and a nice Roman town, then come to Martigny. It is en route, and lovely... Look at the website of the Fondation Gianadda. Www.gianadda.ch and also the town's site - www.martigny.ch

Many thanks for the ideas. What we did was: stroll along the lakeside at Vevey, get the 14:05 ferry to Chillon Castle,(14:50) look round the outside, stroll along the lovely flower lined path back to Montreux, where we arrived just in time (15:56)for the bus (201) back to Vevey. We also arrived just in time (16:26) to retrieve our luggage and continue our journey to Geneva. This gives some idea of the times. In retrospect we could have taken the return journey slower and had more time in Vevey.

Sounds great! I'm glad you got to see lovely Vevey as well as the flowered lakeside promenade -- two great things in the area.

Thanks for posting!

It is really a shame that you only saw Chillon from the outside! It is amazing when you visit the castle. But it sounds like you had a good day!

I love Vevey so am glad you liked it too!!
