Is there a bus or train from Zurich to Lugano?
What are the times?
How much do they cost?
How frequently do they run?
Hi, be sure to put in a date a week or so away in order to be sure to get fares which are on a tab at the bottom right of the individual train schedules - scroll down to get to the individual schedules. It appears there is a no changes train every couple of hours from Zurich HB (that is the abbreviation for Hauptbahnhof or main station).
Another quick note -- the Swiss train site (SBB) is one of the few that recognizes most English spelling, so you can use "Zurich airport." I always do!
In the event that you are flying in from the US, it may be worth adding that Swiss has four daily connecting flights from Zurich to Lugano (a 45 min. flight).
It's a lovely train journey, along Lakes Zurich, Zug and Lucerne. You then climb up to the entrance to the Gotthard tunnel by means of the track turning back on itself, so that you see the little church at Wassen at three different levels. When you emerge from the tunnel all the buildings are so different from those on the north of the tunnel, as you pass from the German-speaking to Italian-speaking regions. It's a really interesting journey, taking about 3 hours and as far as I can remember the trains run every hour - through trains are every two hours and on the alternate hours you have to change at Arth-Goldau. Sorry I can't help with the cost.
I intend to take "Cisalpino" from venice to zurich, I plan to take it during the day hoping to see some landscapes... is this really worth it or are there better scenic trains?
Thanks for the help!
