Weather and clothing required, late sept/early october 2012?

please advise if possible, what clothing requirements for Lucerne, interlarken, basel, in late september early october. Listening to different advise has left us a bit confused. My husband seems to think we need to be fully decked out in snow gear most of the time, I am disagreeing!!

Reliable info would help immensely.

In those towns, you will not need snow gear. If you are traveling up to the Jungfrau or the other high peaks, you will be on snow and will need to be dressed in layers. However, a good wind and water proof jacket worn over a warm sweater and turtleneck along with warm trousers with thermal underwesr (I use silk as it is not so thick as to require a larger size of trousers or jeans), warm socks, regular wooly gloves and a cap should do just fine. You can use the jacket as your rain coat - if you look online you can find such lightweight jackets at lotsof sporting good shops.

Hope this helps

It's a tricky time of year. You could still be wearing summer clothes. Best advice is to bring layers, and layer up at altitude. No need to bring full on ski wear, but a woolly hat and gloves take up little space.
