Swiss train tickets

Hi,

I wondered if anyone could help me with buying Swiss train tickets.

My girlfriend and I are planning to visit Basel, Lucerne, Interlaken, Bern and Geneva in December. I have had a look on the Travel Centre site which suggests that a Swiss Saver Flexi Pass for 3 or 4 days in 1 month is the way to go...this is £137 for second class.

However, on sbb.ch I have sought out individual fares listed in CHF and realised that it totals £49 for the journeys we need. This is for train tickets the week before we desire (i.e. Wed 11th Dec, whereas we actually want Wed 18th Dec).

When I try to select the dates we need though, I am greeted with this message...'You have selected a date after the end of the timetable period (09.12.12 - 14.12.13).'

Do I simply need to be patient for these individual fares to be available or am I unable to buy point-to-point fares this close to the end of the year for some reason? I only ask because the same message has shown for the past three weeks.

Thank you for any help.

This is for the 2 day Swiss Flexi-Pass which may not be appropriate for your itinerary. You will need to check the p2p fares against the cost of the various passes to see which gives the best deal.

The SBB site defaults to Half Fare. I suggest you check these figures again.

This is because the new timetable from 15 December has not yet been published. It is unlikely there will be much change in the fares/times, if any.

There is no need to buy tickets before you arrive as there is no saving by buying early as in the UK.
